Ar-Tre introduces Space: more room in even the smallest of kitchens

Nowadays we expect more of our kitchens, but with an increasingly small footprint at our disposal. Modern apartments are less spacious, while the kitchen has become the centre of home life and has to meet a variety of needs – preparing and cooking food, eating together, working and socialising.

This presents kitchen manufacturers with a clear challenge – How can we optimise the space at our disposal to make it more functional?

The Research & Development department at Ar-Tre decided to tackle this challenge by completely rethinking standard kitchen dimensions, applying an approach that we call Space modularity.

This involves exploiting every centimetre of space – deeper worktops, more storage space, optimised ergonomic heights and more elegant proportions.

Space modularity is now available for four of our main collections, offering more functional solutions without compromising on aesthetics: Sky, Up Design, Fly Evo/Flo Evo and I Naturali.

Space is only available with the Utopia body in four different finishes. The Utopia body is more durable and visually striking, thanks to the 6 mm back panel, which has the same finish as the side panels.

Space modularity – Features

The new modularity introduces four fundamental improvements that transform how the kitchen is used.

Deeper worktops provide more space for food preparation.

The depth of the worktops has been extended from the standard measurement to 64 cm, providing more space to prepare and cook food, and to organise your kitchen utensils. The worktop only projects outwards by 5 mm, making it easier to open the unit doors and retaining elegant proportions.

Optimised ergonomic height

The base units are now 78 cm high with an external handle or profile and 81.5 cm with groove openings, to adapt to the increase in people’s average height. Working in the kitchen becomes more comfortable, and reduces back strain.

More storage space

The taller, deeper units mean significantly more storage space. Every centimetre has been optimised for more storage, without compromising on style.

Shorter plinth for a modern look

The plinth has been shortened to a height of 8-10 cm (compared with the standard 12-15 cm), making the kitchen look more streamlined and contemporary. This detail makes a difference to the final result, because the lower plinth has less of a visual impact.

The advantages of Space modularity

Space modularity offers clear, practical advantages in everyday kitchen living.

A larger work surface. Having a 64 cm worktop rather than the standard 60 cm means having 4 cm more for the entire length of the kitchen. In a linear kitchen, this translates into additional usable surface space that could be used for a chopping board, pan and ingredients without having to continuously make space.

Better ergonomic posture while preparing meals. The base units measuring 78 cm high (with handle) or 81.5 cm (with groove opening) rather than the standard 72 cm reduce the need to bend over when working in the kitchen. For a person of average height, this means working in a natural, standing position, reducing strain on the back and neck when preparing food.

Up to 20% more storage space. Higher, deeper base units provide a significant increase in total volume. This means being able to store more pans, dishes and provisions without having to decide what to keep and what not to.

More modern proportions. The plinth measuring 8-10 cm rather than the standard 12-15 cm creates a lighter, more streamlined visual effect, bringing the kitchen more in line with contemporary aesthetics.
