For some years, Ar-Tre has been supporting the research and healthcare institute IRCCS Burlo Garofolo, a top Italian pediatric hospital. Its latest donation is a kitchen for one of the apartments for the families of young patients, which have been designed to create welcoming, calm environments.
A kitchen to feel at home in: Ar-Tre for the Burlo Garofolo families
The Burlo Garofolo of Trieste: top quality healthcare for young patients
The IRCCS Burlo Garofolo of Trieste is one of Italy’s most important pediatric research and treatment centres. For decades, it has been a key point of reference for families throughout the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and beyond, offering high-level specialist treatment and an all-round focus on the well-being of the children and the people accompanying them.
Because when a child is in hospital, they are never alone. Their parents, siblings and grandparents come with them – all people who need somewhere to stay, where they can return to some kind of daily routine and feel at home, even if they have travelled a long way. This is why, over the years, the Burlo has created places for the families: apartments designed to ease the difficulty of being away from home for periods that, in some cases, can last for weeks.

Ar-Tre’s contribution: a heartfelt, responsible choice
Ar-Tre has chosen to support the Burlo Garofolo with a physical donation, a complete Sky kitchen, finished in Khaki with burnished groove handles, complete with appliances and worktop, and personally installed by the Ar-Tre team. This donation is a confirmation of the company’s connection with the Trieste hospital over the years, rooted in a specific vision of a company that believes in the area in which it was founded and has grown.
“We have been supporting the Burlo Garofolo for years now, because we believe that caring for the local area also means supporting those who work for children and their families on a daily basis. The Burlo is an example of excellence in Friuli Venezia Giulia, where we are based, and as such deserves our wholehearted support. Personally, as a mother, I can imagine how hard it must be to be away from home at such a difficult time. Knowing that these apartments have been designed with such care and attention to detail, especially in the kitchen, which is the meeting point par excellence, is something I can closely identify with”.

A project in which every detail is about people
The apartments for the families of the young patients were designed by Studio MADS of Trieste with a precise aim: to create welcoming, calm places able to convey a sense of normality and positivity even in a hospital environment. A task that is anything but straightforward, requiring sensitive design and careful aesthetic choices.
The day area of the apartment has been designed with a palette of warm, neutral colours, with walls and floors in cosy shades and the space partly divided by samba wood batons – giving the area texture and natural warmth.
The furnishings complete the picture neatly: a dining room table with a graphite frame and dove-coloured top, chairs and hanging lights in Rosso Bulgaro that add a vivid but light touch, helping to give the space that positive atmosphere being sought after.
The Sky modern kitchen finished in Khaki fits perfectly into this context, bringing an earthy, sophisticated note that interacts naturally with the neutral shades of the walls and the warmth of the wood.

The Sky modern kitchen: quality designed to last
Sky is one of the key designs of the Ar-Tre catalogue: melamine doors available in a wide range of finishes, here with burnished groove handles with matching sink and taps, for a sophisticated, consistent result.
The Khaki finish was chosen not only for its capacity to match the other items in the area, but also for a very practical reason: smooth, opaque surfaces are quick to clean and easy to maintain over time, which is particularly important in a shared space, where practicality needs to co-exist with style.
The fully fitted kitchen – appliances, worktop and fitting are included – reflect the Ar-Tre approach, which is to deliver not just a product, but a finished space, ready to live in.

Supporting those who care
Every day the Burlo Garofolo hospital carries out extraordinary work, made up of medical skill, research and personal care.
